Haridwar

Haridwar is one of the pilgrim destinations of Uttarakhand located about 200 kms from Delhi. 'Hari' meaning god and 'dwar' meaning gate, Haridwar literally means 'Gateway to God'. Every year Haridwar tour attracts a large number of Hindu pilgrims from all over the world.


Haridwar is the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttarakhand and also offers many places of scenic beauty in and around the town. Situated on the banks of River Ganga, Haridwar is among the seven sacred cities of India. The city is also one of the four venues for the Kumbh Mela, held every twelve years. How to Reach:


The nearest airport to Haridwar is the Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun located over 41 km from the city. Haridwar is also well connected by trains to almost all the major cities in India. The road journey to this city is also very comfortable and smooth. There are regular bus services from Delhi, Rishikesh, Nainital and other important towns of North India, which make Haridwar tour very convenient.

What to See:


Places to see in Haridwar include Har-Ki-Pauri located just 1.5 km away from the city. Chandi Devi temple at 6 kms distance and Daksha Mahadev Temple at 4 kms are also visited frequently. Maya Devi Temple located on upper road and Mansa Devi Temple placed atop a hill near the center of town is very close to the city and popular too.
Another place to visit is the Neel Dhara Pakshi Vihar located over 3.5 km. Sati Kund, Sapt Rishi ashram, and Sapt Sarovar etc., are also popular tourist spots. Parad Shivling is another attraction that should not be missed.
Seven floored Bharat Mata Mandir, dedicated to Mother India, with deities, saints, and secular heroes of all Indian faiths is very famous amongst all tourists and is one of the interesting places to see in Haridwar. Ma Anandamayee Ashram, located at Kankhal is visited by many tourists all round the year.

At 26 km from Haridwar, Rishikesh is one of the sought after excursion options, which is very popular with backpackers. Rajaji National Park is a good option that is worth a stopover on your way to Rishikesh.
Mussoorie is another close by excursion destinations located about 89 kms from Haridwar. This is a beautiful hill station and one of the best places in Uttaranchal. You can also visit Dehradun, the capital of the state, which is located just 54 kms from Haridwar.
